About the man behind stillphotojournalist.com

Born and raised in Southern California, I am currently an unemployed Systems Administrator who fell victim to the downfall of our economy. Though my career is in fixing computers, I spend the majority of my free time with with some type of camera equipment nearby.

My journey into the photography world began back in early 1999. I was living in Hawaii at the time and stumbled into a pawn shop where an old Canon AE-1 Program caught my eye. Though having no prior SLR camera experience, I was always fascinated with what kind of results you could get with one. So I happily gave the shop clerk my hard earned $150 and walked out the door on a new mission to learn how to use this new toy. By 2000, I had moved back to California and started using that old camera on multiple paying projects including action sports photography, live band shoots, and portraits.

These days, I have moved into the world of Digital SLR cameras and can honestly say that thanks to the digital era, my skill and ability to get the shots that I want have improved immensely. Over time I have been doing more and more projects for people that I never expected to be doing, and my end results just keep getting better and better.

I am now the webmaster and a board member for the Santa Clarita Valley Photographer’s Association and have won awards for my images in competitions including a ‘best of show’ award.

Why this site?

I decided to build this site as a vehicle to share the things that I have learned or done with the rest of the world. I enjoy teaching people new tricks, and experiencing the joy that they get when they successfully try something new.

Each post here is open for your comments. If you’ve enjoyed something here, by all means let me know!
